An iced tea, cola, wine cooler, water?<br />
No? Then perhaps you'd like a nice, refreshing, and always exceptionally cool, Butter Beer?<br />

Snowing again. I had really hoped we were done with that. The gray weather was really effecting my mood today, so I went searching for some color on the 'net. Came across this video on YouTube. No idea what she is saying, something about painting intuitively? Watching her paint with these luscious colors was just what I needed. I hope you enjoy it, too.<br />

Well, I've managed two whole months plus now. Here are a few of the shots I've taken recently.<br />
<br />
These three are from January. See how bare the ground was on January 22? Then the snow started, and just kept falling. That picture of the gate to the veggie garden? That day, January 28, may well have been the last day we saw it. The side rails have started to re-emerge only during the last few days.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nN5w77tchI8/VPnVqtE1j8I/AAAAAAAADkM/dMgPBUUizAg/s1600/collage-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nN5w77tchI8/VPnVqtE1j8I/AAAAAAAADkM/dMgPBUUizAg/s1600/collage-6.jpg" height="145" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course, winter was a double whammy this year. Besides record snow fall, we had record cold. Some days I only went out just as long as it took Knight to do what he had to do. On those days, the basement with The Husband's tools and assorted junk came in very handy. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6wv9HfHnbJk/VPnVqh-ceCI/AAAAAAAADkQ/Aa0dJ7GD7SI/s1600/collage-7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6wv9HfHnbJk/VPnVqh-ceCI/AAAAAAAADkQ/Aa0dJ7GD7SI/s1600/collage-7.jpg" height="275" width="400" /></a> </div>
<br />
When Knight and I had finally had enough, and really wanted to go for a good walk, we jumped in the car and headed to N.C., to hang out with the Southern Daughter. Her city has a wonderful downtown, and I got some pictures there. Her cat Socks had some photo sessions, too. We did bring a bit of the snow down with us. Not much, just enough to get her a snow day from work, so she could walk the dog.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ql-NkNhXWJg/VPnVqYsb6RI/AAAAAAAADkI/u_v6FbNaEBo/s1600/collage-8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ql-NkNhXWJg/VPnVqYsb6RI/AAAAAAAADkI/u_v6FbNaEBo/s1600/collage-8.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Some days it is harder than others to figure out what to photograph. During my hotel stay on the way back north, the only thing that looked halfway exciting was a light on the wall. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hBopvmeF4oc/VPnVx_c6oVI/AAAAAAAADkg/vC3dJJ4yXfM/s1600/February-27.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hBopvmeF4oc/VPnVx_c6oVI/AAAAAAAADkg/vC3dJJ4yXfM/s1600/February-27.jpg" height="316" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sometimes the photographs don't turn out very interesting. Maybe because he was missing Buttercup, who was in the hospital, these Jensen pictures were just lackluster. So, I posterized him in Photoshop. Buttercup is now home, and doing much better. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oB2Q7KEbgxA/VPnVx89PHWI/AAAAAAAADkk/8IW-DBPXAeQ/s1600/February-28.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oB2Q7KEbgxA/VPnVx89PHWI/AAAAAAAADkk/8IW-DBPXAeQ/s1600/February-28.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On the display of my camera, I can't see well enough with my bad eyes to tell what the pictures really look like. One day, all I had were some blurry photos of collard leaves. Generally, I like to keep alterations of my pictures to a minimum, but since all I had was a mess, I decided to go wild. The vein on the leaf was slightly altered, the picture solarized, colors enhanced, and then a fabric weave pattern was added into the veins. What do you think?</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8bvyE14Eips/VPnV1y4FXdI/AAAAAAAADkw/IL3pTYrZzGo/s1600/March%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8bvyE14Eips/VPnV1y4FXdI/AAAAAAAADkw/IL3pTYrZzGo/s1600/March%2B1.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Getting bored with snow pictures? Me, too. With any luck spring will arrive soon, and the budding flowers and trees will re-energize my photography. Read my lips, Mother Nature. <em>No new snow! Please?</em>Karen Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07589381487144096056noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6227833763979895509.post-34693266834957917242015-02-16T19:54:00.000-05:002015-02-16T19:54:59.705-05:00Enough Already!Well, this is turning out to be quite a winter, isn't it? For a while, it seemed like winter wouldn't happen, and then, BAM! We were buried, and the temperature dropped like a rock. I took a few pictures outside this morning so you could see what our house is looking like Not too many, though, as the temperature was still below 0°F.<br />
<br />
There should be an entire row of shrubs visible at the front of this picture. Instead, all you can see is one juniper reaching an arm up, hoping to be pulled to safety.<br />

I've been spending a lot of time trying to figure out what that creature is that's attached to the back end of The Dog. You know the one I mean. That long-haired creature that won't stay still long enough for me to get a proper sniff. What has Mom been doing? Not vacuuming, that's for sure!</div>

Well, I've finally gotten back to them. The holiday season always throws me for a loop. I also find it hard to work with other people in the house, as I feel like I should be doing something for them. Do you have this problem, too? Now the Husband is back to work, and the Curly One is back at school, and I am digging my way out from under.<br />
<br />
This is the stack of 30 quiltlets all layered up and ready to stitch. Each one is about 6 by 9 inches. (Do you like the tray on the wall? It's an old TV tray from , what would it be, the 1950's?)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yByOw8rxvNY/VMEsUiFW91I/AAAAAAAADiE/q2VuvScPBYg/s1600/quiltlets1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yByOw8rxvNY/VMEsUiFW91I/AAAAAAAADiE/q2VuvScPBYg/s1600/quiltlets1.jpg" height="400" width="270" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I tried to get bunny approval. Here you can see Jensen looking at the stack suspiciously. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xcfytyTqTgM/VMEsU7dWTbI/AAAAAAAADiI/EDDBU-EuBbY/s1600/quiltlets2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xcfytyTqTgM/VMEsU7dWTbI/AAAAAAAADiI/EDDBU-EuBbY/s1600/quiltlets2.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
He approached, sniffed, and kept right on going. Buttercup kept her back turned the entire time I was presenting these. It seems the little quilts are not up to bunny standards yet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BiOWEodKfP4/VMEsUrLxsdI/AAAAAAAADiA/VYO8WKRmtS0/s1600/quiltlets3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BiOWEodKfP4/VMEsUrLxsdI/AAAAAAAADiA/VYO8WKRmtS0/s1600/quiltlets3.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
I guess I'll have to try harder during the quilting phase if I want the nibble of approval....Karen Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07589381487144096056noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6227833763979895509.post-63655092990022357062015-01-19T20:39:00.000-05:002015-03-06T12:11:33.953-05:00A New Year, A New ProjectMy camera is nothing fancy, a little Canon Powershot, several years old. I've always just used it on automatic, letting the camera do all the figuring. This year I want to (finally) learn how to use the programmable settings. Downloading the instructions was a start. To make sure that I <em>actually used</em> the directions, I signed up for a <a href="https://www.flickr.com/groups/365days-52weeks/" target="_blank">Project 365 group on Flickr.</a> <br />
<br />
You may have seen some of these groups on-line. There is the original <a href="http://365project.org/" target="_blank">Project 365.</a> Most of the social media sites have groups with the same type of daily project. Some have more rules than others. The group I've joined is fairly laid-back and welcoming.<br />
<br />
Since we are already 2/3 of the way through January, I thought I would show you my photos so far. Most of them were taken while walking Knight. These are in no particular date order.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G2vVmf12cys/VL2oyxz0doI/AAAAAAAADg8/NO2QWjwWiTA/s1600/collage%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G2vVmf12cys/VL2oyxz0doI/AAAAAAAADg8/NO2QWjwWiTA/s1600/collage%2B1.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The top left is rocks in my yard, using the vivid color setting. The Christmas lights used the night setting. I think the other two were automatic. A squall was coming in over the hockey players.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XkvA149362M/VL2oywzpHdI/AAAAAAAADg4/5zhd9_PzpDA/s1600/collage%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XkvA149362M/VL2oywzpHdI/AAAAAAAADg4/5zhd9_PzpDA/s1600/collage%2B2.jpg" height="640" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The picture in the middle doesn't look like much, but in real-life it was very interesting. A nearby pond had frozen, thawed, and refrozen, causing these star or snowflake-shaped holes to form. There were a bunch of them, but to get any detail at all, I had to zoom way in. They were about 2 feet in diameter. Does anyone know if this happens often? I've never noticed it before.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YgYtwc8gK30/VL2oy-qjwfI/AAAAAAAADg0/_BfXaYL0qM8/s1600/collage%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YgYtwc8gK30/VL2oy-qjwfI/AAAAAAAADg0/_BfXaYL0qM8/s1600/collage%2B3.jpg" height="190" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
On the right, another snow squall makes my neighbor's shed look like a Christmas card. In the middle, a cheery bit of green. On the left, one of Knight's favorite things. I keep telling him not to be such a cliché. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j26zq2b5Ugs/VL2uesNXl0I/AAAAAAAADhw/OVzj9CYwu40/s1600/January-10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j26zq2b5Ugs/VL2uesNXl0I/AAAAAAAADhw/OVzj9CYwu40/s1600/January-10.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Speaking of Knight, here he is in dragon slaying mode.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sSKOahcH_fU/VL2ozSa2lHI/AAAAAAAADhA/kQ83kEz1yxw/s1600/collage%2B4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sSKOahcH_fU/VL2ozSa2lHI/AAAAAAAADhA/kQ83kEz1yxw/s1600/collage%2B4.jpg" height="112" width="400" /></a> </div>
On days too cold to go outside, I photographed a stack of papers with the corner of a folded up bunny tunnel. Also, some clamps in the workshop. The last one is my parking spot at the MFA, with some Photoshop lighting effects.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JTnwIgYY9y8/VL2ozjj8bQI/AAAAAAAADhE/SilzUE595x8/s1600/collage%2B5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JTnwIgYY9y8/VL2ozjj8bQI/AAAAAAAADhE/SilzUE595x8/s1600/collage%2B5.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
You may have seen the pictures above on Facebook. It's amazing how good zooming in can make things look. Just like in the garden in the summer!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gr0_KP8cCjk/VL2tf6DfG8I/AAAAAAAADhg/qR786C3tfGE/s1600/January-5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gr0_KP8cCjk/VL2tf6DfG8I/AAAAAAAADhg/qR786C3tfGE/s1600/January-5.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course the bunnies haven't been left out. Here is Jensen, looking regal.</div>
<br />
<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j2cnuQyqbzM/VL2tgD_IYoI/AAAAAAAADhk/PVOyJHBWPkQ/s1600/January-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j2cnuQyqbzM/VL2tgD_IYoI/AAAAAAAADhk/PVOyJHBWPkQ/s1600/January-3.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And finally Buttercup, grooming. Or maybe plotting. Not sure. What I do know is that she has gotten the most views of any of my pictures for this project so far. But then, that is the way it should be, right?</div>

Even with some travelling thrown in. Luckily this project was nice and compact, an easy one to carry along. I was able to sit at The Southern Daughter's table and play while she cooked!<br />
<br />
Thank you all for the nice things you said about the last batch of fabric pictures. As a bonus, one of my brothers even left a comment. That really warms a sister's heart. Also, I'm so happy that shell and RG think the one of shell looks like her. I wonder if I will ever get to the point where I'm not surprised that someone recognizes what I've made? <br />
<br />
Here is the final batch.<br />
<br />

Day 20</div>

Day 25</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My Southern Daughter says this will be her house some day. She loves a porch. And horses.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Day 27</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Another llama appeared, and I think maybe those women are the faces of Fate. Or maybe the Triple Goddess. Or both.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lYW82vZkSy0/VIdsHf07SUI/AAAAAAAADf0/s2f6fYnWFV4/s1600/AED27.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lYW82vZkSy0/VIdsHf07SUI/AAAAAAAADf0/s2f6fYnWFV4/s1600/AED27.jpg" height="400" width="261" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Day 28</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Took a long trail walk with the family and dog, and saw a bluebird. That's not a bird that I get to see very often.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bVFx2TJSTiA/VIdsHr5oFwI/AAAAAAAADgQ/2E6JHCjW_Yg/s1600/AED28.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bVFx2TJSTiA/VIdsHr5oFwI/AAAAAAAADgQ/2E6JHCjW_Yg/s1600/AED28.jpg" height="400" width="257" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Day 29</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My goofy dog, aka my Knight in fuzzy armor.. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-84ekWDAPS2Y/VIdsHlI7pdI/AAAAAAAADf8/BNdIGqDz5vE/s1600/AED29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-84ekWDAPS2Y/VIdsHlI7pdI/AAAAAAAADf8/BNdIGqDz5vE/s1600/AED29.jpg" height="400" width="253" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Day 30</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A catbird to finish off the month. Some summers we have had catbirds that would follow us around the yard, scolding us if we picked their berries. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v4MDUGwFy3k/VIdsIAiMTZI/AAAAAAAADgE/9p13dE1743E/s1600/AED30.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v4MDUGwFy3k/VIdsIAiMTZI/AAAAAAAADgE/9p13dE1743E/s1600/AED30.jpg" height="276" width="400" /></a> </div>
<br />
<br />
That's the lot. I have already done a little stitching on these. A "red thread of connection" has been sewn across some part of each one. Now I need to layer them up with batting, and begin the actual quilting. The hand stitching should be a good stress reliever as Christmas approaches. I am definitely not ready for it. Are you? <br />
<br />
One last thing. I want to offer apologies to <a href="http://zenofbun.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Mr. Mick</a> for only getting his likeness onto one piece. I promise to make amends for that shortcoming in the near future. Maybe I should send him some rum, too. Think that will do the trick?<br />

This drawing project has turned out to be lots of fun. It's hard to believe that so much of the month has already passed! Since I prepared my fabric pieces ahead of time, I've managed to keep up with the drawing. I like several of these more than the others, but that may change once they are stitched and quilted. Do you have a favorite?</div>

I imagine a number of you out there are busy scribbling away on your novels for <a href="http://nanowrimo.org/" target="_blank">NaNoWriMo</a>. I don't know how you do that, especially with the holidays approaching! Maybe someday I'll be brave and try a novel, but once again this year I have decided that <a href="http://creativeeveryday.com/art-every-day-month" target="_blank">Art Every Day Month</a> sounds much more doable. The use of <a href="http://www.pencils.co.uk/en/gb/4407/inktense-pencils" target="_blank">Derwent Inktense pencils</a> on fabric has interested me for a while, but I have never made the time to actually try them. So for November, I'm playing with pencils.<br />
<br />
We have already reached Day 7, so here are seven small 6"x9" pieces that I have worked on. Besides the pencils, I am also using collage and paint on each piece. After November is up, I plan to go back into each of these with hand and machine stitching. So now, here we go!<br />
<br />
<div align="center">
Day 1</div>
<div align="center">
Of course, I had to start with a bunny. </div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YmQ-s4MDXxA/VF1i29zm4cI/AAAAAAAADdc/tSuA8ABfXrA/s1600/AED1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YmQ-s4MDXxA/VF1i29zm4cI/AAAAAAAADdc/tSuA8ABfXrA/s1600/AED1.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Day 2</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That weird little creature in the middle? Don't tell anyone, but it started life as a badly drawn chair. You can see on the flowers where the pencil color spread. You can activate the pencils with aloe gel or water. You have much more control of how the color spreads with the aloe.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rT1QgD56Onk/VF1iu4Ery3I/AAAAAAAADcw/30UkhNb3iF8/s1600/AED2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rT1QgD56Onk/VF1iu4Ery3I/AAAAAAAADcw/30UkhNb3iF8/s1600/AED2.jpg" height="267" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Day 3</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In a weird coincidence, the random number generator that I used to choose a number to paint chose the same number as the day! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y6nwyBpQR1U/VF1ivTgOs-I/AAAAAAAADc4/THV7JC6kl_0/s1600/AED3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y6nwyBpQR1U/VF1ivTgOs-I/AAAAAAAADc4/THV7JC6kl_0/s1600/AED3.jpg" height="267" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Day 4</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YNmdIRD6vIw/VF1iv81gLDI/AAAAAAAADdA/rbIwqkIISn4/s1600/AED4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YNmdIRD6vIw/VF1iv81gLDI/AAAAAAAADdA/rbIwqkIISn4/s1600/AED4.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Day 5</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My Wonderland bunny looks like Ginny.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Day 6</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The lioness is showing how I feel about political phone calls.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u2f-hI-4SrQ/VF1iwqYpOnI/AAAAAAAADdQ/TS4FAL4Zz7c/s1600/AED6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u2f-hI-4SrQ/VF1iwqYpOnI/AAAAAAAADdQ/TS4FAL4Zz7c/s1600/AED6.jpg" height="260" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Day 7</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Vi-EDFZim3A/VF1iw-RMz4I/AAAAAAAADdU/M2YgNj8_ayk/s1600/AED7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Vi-EDFZim3A/VF1iw-RMz4I/AAAAAAAADdU/M2YgNj8_ayk/s1600/AED7.jpg" height="273" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've seen some wonderfully subtle quilts drawn with these pencils. As usual, there is nothing subtle about mine! But, I think I'm starting to getting the feel for using the Inktense pencils on fabric, and that's what I hoped for. To see more AEDM work, check the <a href="http://creativeeveryday.com/creativeeveryday/2014/11/art-every-day-month-day-7-2.html" target="_blank">Day 7 links at the Creative Every Day blog.</a> Have a great weekend everybunny.</div>

Barely.Before I went away for a little trip, the weather had cooled off enough to be able to stand having a quilt on my lap. That meant I had to stop procrastinating, and I finished the binding on this quilt. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V8UtMk93A7I/VD7VEdGiWII/AAAAAAAADbo/-J8Hzo21MjI/s1600/sea-quilt1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V8UtMk93A7I/VD7VEdGiWII/AAAAAAAADbo/-J8Hzo21MjI/s1600/sea-quilt1.jpg" height="308" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That also meant that it was time to have the quilt rabbit-tested. Buttercup and Jensen got together, and consulted on the criteria.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_BmetfF71xI/VD7VRrkNFLI/AAAAAAAADb0/q2dYxE0aNDk/s1600/sea-quilt3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_BmetfF71xI/VD7VRrkNFLI/AAAAAAAADb0/q2dYxE0aNDk/s1600/sea-quilt3.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Jensen took the time to explain to Knight about their rating system. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_A38QcvjsKM/VD7VSf7LFPI/AAAAAAAADcA/VoUE0bCQah8/s1600/sea-quilt5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_A38QcvjsKM/VD7VSf7LFPI/AAAAAAAADcA/VoUE0bCQah8/s1600/sea-quilt5.jpg" height="246" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Meanwhile, Buttercup got serious about the testing process.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XdWrhrCR9wY/VD7VSrFgmZI/AAAAAAAADcE/jzkzeShLWMU/s1600/sea-quilt6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XdWrhrCR9wY/VD7VSrFgmZI/AAAAAAAADcE/jzkzeShLWMU/s1600/sea-quilt6.jpg" height="261" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
She even checked out the back of the quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MW1d1j2Cktk/VD7VRmi84yI/AAAAAAAADbw/Dq8r4TvsHM8/s1600/sea-quilt2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MW1d1j2Cktk/VD7VRmi84yI/AAAAAAAADbw/Dq8r4TvsHM8/s1600/sea-quilt2.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
She and Jensen talked over their findings. The discussions went on for a while, and I started to get nervous. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FymQgkn5reI/VD7VSHE_8HI/AAAAAAAADb4/--xyw--ZeXM/s1600/sea-quilt4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FymQgkn5reI/VD7VSHE_8HI/AAAAAAAADb4/--xyw--ZeXM/s1600/sea-quilt4.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally, Buttercup informed me that they had decided to give the quilt their Paw of Approval. She also told me that too much dog smell on the quilt should have disqualified it, but they took pity on me as I had taken so long to get this done. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-21pROY8RZlY/VD7VS0jEgMI/AAAAAAAADcI/vqZb7za8hr8/s1600/sea-quilt7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-21pROY8RZlY/VD7VS0jEgMI/AAAAAAAADcI/vqZb7za8hr8/s1600/sea-quilt7.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I was grateful, and promised to try harder to meet their standards next time.Karen Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07589381487144096056noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6227833763979895509.post-91829320806318420622014-09-20T11:20:00.000-04:002014-09-20T11:20:51.237-04:00A Bit of Progress<div style="text-align: left;">
Made some progress on my llama this week, but not as much as I had hoped to. Sometimes the hands just don't want to cooperate with the hand stitching. </div>

<a href="http://www.speedyhousebunny.com/2014/09/arrrgh-me-heartystis-time-to-celebrate.html" target="_blank">Now here is where I was going to show you photos of Jensen, Buttercup, and Knight at Speedy's Pirate Party</a>, but I haven't been able to get the camera back from Knight yet. He was soaking wet and growling about darn rabbits when they came home. Then Jensen said Knight had looked good with eye patches over both eyes. Both rabbits hopped away snickering, and I'm pretty sure that I heard Buttercup mumble something about a long walk on a short plank. Guess there must have been a lot of rum consumed.... </div>

Looking around while I waited, I saw a universe that I had never noticed before. Luckily, I had my camera with me.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q1ggz3QDShQ/VBMvciTqX0I/AAAAAAAADa4/Kq1kbkTCpj8/s1600/universeunaltered.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q1ggz3QDShQ/VBMvciTqX0I/AAAAAAAADa4/Kq1kbkTCpj8/s1600/universeunaltered.jpg" height="255" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Doesn't it look like a spiraling galaxy? Seven o"clock in the morning, and quantum physics hits me with something as deep as the oneness of every part of the universe. Good thing I had had my coffee!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyway, when I got home, I messed around with it in Photoshop. This version might be a crater on Mars. Somehow the redness, and sort of landscapishness (that's a word, right) didn't translate when I loaded this onto the blog. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JfuW2op4-TM/VBMvb-10pII/AAAAAAAADa8/9BYZJbYdxHM/s1600/universe3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JfuW2op4-TM/VBMvb-10pII/AAAAAAAADa8/9BYZJbYdxHM/s1600/universe3.jpg" height="255" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This one is closer to the stars that I imagined, but not quite there yet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_mx1iqcShMk/VBMvb6BZLyI/AAAAAAAADas/eXlTAG7smpc/s1600/universe2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_mx1iqcShMk/VBMvb6BZLyI/AAAAAAAADas/eXlTAG7smpc/s1600/universe2.jpg" height="255" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
OK, maybe it's all in my head. But, it was an interesting exercise in seeing. If you feel like experimenting, start with this version here. It's a larger file. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q1ggz3QDShQ/VBMvciTqX0I/AAAAAAAADa4/Kq1kbkTCpj8/s1600/universeunaltered.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q1ggz3QDShQ/VBMvciTqX0I/AAAAAAAADa4/Kq1kbkTCpj8/s1600/universeunaltered.jpg" height="255" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And since it's the weekend, Jensen has something to say.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HDpOABXVg3Q/VBMwuPvlzqI/AAAAAAAADbI/7rCTjp_ML40/s1600/eyeseeyou.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HDpOABXVg3Q/VBMwuPvlzqI/AAAAAAAADbI/7rCTjp_ML40/s1600/eyeseeyou.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"Eye hope everybun has a nice weekend!"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course, Buttercup seconds that, although she disapproves of Jensen's spelling.</div>

And I have written some amazing blog posts since the last one. You just never got to read them, because they never made it out of my head, down my arm to my fingers and onto the keyboard. Trust me though, you would have been amazed and entertained. <br />
<br />
Another activity that has languished over the last year is quilt making. Not that I haven't been sewing. It's just that my quilting has been more about using traditional patterns, and using up fabric. During this time my creative muscles have been exercised by taking art classes, and learning to use a lot of different art supplies, and techniques. Last week I finally found myself wanting to get back to creative quilting. Here is my first step, drawn with fabric marker. The crow is a stamp.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QZkQ8IXuuwI/VA3NyQNjNHI/AAAAAAAADZ8/fwve4_DucHo/s1600/persevere1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QZkQ8IXuuwI/VA3NyQNjNHI/AAAAAAAADZ8/fwve4_DucHo/s1600/persevere1.jpg" height="400" width="308" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next, I added some paint. The red was applied first, and heat set. Then the green and blue were added. I like painting on fabric with a white-on-white design, as the paint really makes the design stand out.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CT1UMOcThBg/VA3N1Dp7jSI/AAAAAAAADaE/WmnBiszE00M/s1600/persevere2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CT1UMOcThBg/VA3N1Dp7jSI/AAAAAAAADaE/WmnBiszE00M/s1600/persevere2.jpg" height="400" width="286" /></a></div>
<br />
Next came a little bit of fabric collage, and some more drawing with fabric markers. That creature is supposed to be a llama, but I got the head wrong. It came out as more of a horsedog. What can I say? It was my first ever llama. Of course I didn't practice first before diving in with the markers. That would have made too much sense!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JnkfzKatbro/VA3N4PoM6bI/AAAAAAAADaM/Q41ZnYjKXG8/s1600/persevere3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JnkfzKatbro/VA3N4PoM6bI/AAAAAAAADaM/Q41ZnYjKXG8/s1600/persevere3.jpg" height="400" width="297" /></a> </div>
<br />
This was followed by more stitching, paint and collage, and finally the beginning of some quilting. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PGLaHBKOIxY/VA3N6JSARLI/AAAAAAAADaU/QtAQoaysfr8/s1600/persevere4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PGLaHBKOIxY/VA3N6JSARLI/AAAAAAAADaU/QtAQoaysfr8/s1600/persevere4.jpg" height="400" width="293" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm enjoying this. I haven't decided yet if this piece is interesting, or just a big mess. But at any rate, it feels good to get back to creative sewing. That's all for now. Hope to see you again, sooner.</div>

Today I'm speaking for the Rabbits of this household. (Not Wabbits, Mom. I know how to speak English, primitive language that it is.) We are feeling outraged, and full of disapproval. We are very upset that a Predator has been brought into our house.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KE2nCRm-y5o/U8ahHeBK6aI/AAAAAAAADZw/wFHRk4XLMOM/s1600/bc-hiding.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KE2nCRm-y5o/U8ahHeBK6aI/AAAAAAAADZw/wFHRk4XLMOM/s1600/bc-hiding.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And a smelly predator, at that. His fur smells, his breath smells, his food smells, and his toys smell. On top of that, all his toys squeak like a small animal in trouble. What the heck was Mom thinking? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a2rXgYUwZPY/U8ahBsXaY7I/AAAAAAAADZg/XplXvTrf0MI/s1600/bc-hiding-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a2rXgYUwZPY/U8ahBsXaY7I/AAAAAAAADZg/XplXvTrf0MI/s1600/bc-hiding-2.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
She says she wanted someone to walk with and cuddle. So, I'm being punished because I'm too smart to walk on a leash (apologies Speedy) and don't like Human Bean smell all over me? I mean, us. This is so not fair.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ucxKc_E43D4/U8ahEpQTrAI/AAAAAAAADZo/top3hvF0Xpo/s1600/bc-hiding-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ucxKc_E43D4/U8ahEpQTrAI/AAAAAAAADZo/top3hvF0Xpo/s1600/bc-hiding-3.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Guess I'm going to have to do something about this. And, I'll probably have to do it all by myself. Jensen is too busy trying to see if that smelly food is edible. (It's not. That's obvious.) Watch out, Predator, I'm coming for you!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happy Camel Day, Everybun! Now, how do I load this pellet gun....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I've never really been able to get back into the rhythm since Weasley crossed the bridge, and it's starting to feel like something is missing. Facebook is fun, especially for keeping up with my scattered family, but it seems like we build stronger connections on the blogs.<br />
<br />
So, if you haven't been on Facebook, you won't know about our new family member. Buttercup and Jensen the Wonderdog have been joined by Knight the Real Dog. Some kinks are still being worked out, but overall the adoption is going well. It might be easier if Knight hadn't fallen in love with Buttercup, and if he didn't think bunny treats should go to Real Dogs....<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As for creative work, I haven't been doing much sewing since the weather turned hot. Except for repairing dog toys, as Knight is heck on squeaky toys. I have been doing the weekly prompts over at <a href="http://journal52.com/blog/" target="_blank">Journal 52.</a> This week's prompt was technology. While I love technology, and playing with new gadgets, sometimes I get frustrated because it changes too darn quickly. That leaves me feeling like this.</div>

<br />
Well, I won't say I'm officially back until I manage to maintain this for awhile. But right now, it feels really good to be writing here. Thanks for your patience. See you soon.Karen Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07589381487144096056noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6227833763979895509.post-14543216113887973672014-04-26T14:28:00.000-04:002014-04-26T14:28:09.696-04:00The Month Is Going By So Fast!Hi, everybun! It's a very gloomy Saturday here. I hope it's nice and sunny where you are. It's hard to believe how fast this month of poetry has flown by. We are down to the last few days! Today I was sitting here drooling over the <a href="http://www.pier1.com/" target="_blank">Pier 1</a> flyer that came in the mail, dreaming about nicer days to come this summer. Putting that together with a conversation I had a couple days ago with the Husband about taming our blackberry patch was the inspiration for today's poem.<br />

<br />Antidote for the Modern Lifestyle<br /><br /><br />My wicker chair,<br /> Painted in vibrant parrot colors,<br /> Hides deep in the blackberry brambles.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />Behind me, a cushion eases my back,<br /> Convincing me to put my feet up<br /> On the gray boulder footstool.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />On the iron arbor overhead,<br /> Long canes cross, and then cross again,<br /> Tangling, and softening the glare of the sun.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />My book waits in my lap.<br /> Real paper pages beckon to me,<br /> Promising tropical travel adventures.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />But, for now I am content<br /> To listen to a small brown bird<br /> Chatter with the local frogs.</div>

I hope you are having a good Easter. We played outside, and met a human bean not much bigger than Jensen. He was cute, and very gentle with us. His big dog has me a little worried, though. Mom says she just wants to play, but she's sooo big!<br />
<br />
Anyway, since I had something to say, I thought I would take over the poetry business for Mom today. I hope you guys like my work.<br />

I have been keeping up with the poetry, although I haven't been posting it. My parents have returned to the North, and I went to visit them, which is more fun than virtual reality. As a bonus, I got to see two of my amazing nieces, and also got to see <span id="goog_1803501230"></span><a href="http://theraspberryrabbits.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">our lovely shell<span id="goog_1803501231"></span></a>, on Quilting Arts TV. I hope your weekend was at least as good!<br />
<br />
Rather than doing the full catch-up, I thought I would just post today's poem. It's a very gray, and a very rainy day here today. Instead of actual gardening, I've been looking at garden <strike>porn </strike>catalogs. Dahlias are kind of a pain, because they need to be lifted from the ground, and stored inside over the winter. But the flowers? Simply amazing. I may actually plant some this year, how about you?<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

Did you miss me yesterday? No worries, I was still writing poetry. I was also struggling with my new laptop. It's a big jump from Vista to Windows 8! And it's not helped by the fact that I've been using a tablet lately, and I keep trying to swipe a non-touch screen. Took me 7 years to be completely comfortable with the old laptop, so I guess I can't expect miracles. I like lists of things, so Windows 8 is not easy for me. How about you? Have you tried it? What's easier for you, the old desktop, or the new system?<br />
<br />
Now that you know what I've been up to, we can get down to business. First, yesterday's poem. Inspired not only by junk mail, but also by the rainy morning.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
******************************* </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
It is an effort to open the shade <br />
<br />
Covering the front window.<br />
<br />
The layers of white sky<br />
<br />
Seem resistant to the sun’s efforts.<br />
<br />
There is no blue lagoon to see outside, <br />
<br />
Only the slate grey pond,<br />
<br />
Embellished with lacy ripples by <br />
<br />
The falling teardrops.<br />
<br />
Today it will be easier to leave<br />
<br />
My shirttail untucked.<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; line-height: 107%;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; line-height: 107%;"><o:p>******************************* </o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; line-height: 107%;"><o:p></o:p></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; line-height: 107%;"><o:p>Today's poem was inspired by a page from the <a href="http://www.seedsofchange.com/" target="_blank">Seed's of Change</a> catalog. The Golden Bantam is actually a variety of corn!</o:p></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
******************************* </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In the sun, the Golden Bantam’s head shines a true gold.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The feathers across his back and wings are a deep gold, </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And his plump breast fades to a soft, buttery yellow.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
He struts across the yard looking satisfied,</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Having enjoyed an early spring harvest of succulent seedlings.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Endive, escarole, and dandelion have all been snatched from the earth</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Before they could form their ruffled rosettes of crispy leaves.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And this year, the collard greens will never have a chance</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
To grow sweeter with the frosts of fall.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
But, what I will miss most are the round heads of radicchio,</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Their red leaves shot through with veins of white.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I like to drizzle them with olive oil and grill them.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The heat transforms their bitter taste into something more.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Perhaps in the radicchio’s place,</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I will grill the bantam</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
To a rich golden brown.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
******************************* </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Now, I need to hurry off to Staples before yoga class. Seems the old laptop is so old, it is giving the youngsters there some trouble as they try to retrieve my most recent pictures. It's always something, isn't it?</div>
Karen Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07589381487144096056noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6227833763979895509.post-67330782823600321182014-04-07T14:35:00.001-04:002014-04-07T14:35:49.558-04:00What My Garden Will Be Like This YearI've heard it said that to be a gardener, you must be an optimist. I think that's true, because no matter what happened the year before, you just always know the next year is going to be better. And in three years? It will be stunning. Can't you sort of already see it?<br />
<br />
So, here is today's poem, partly from junk mail, and partly from working in the garden this morning.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QsfSbfj0Xx4/U0LvfrTA0wI/AAAAAAAADXI/IcZYnmTIZag/s1600/nutter2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QsfSbfj0Xx4/U0LvfrTA0wI/AAAAAAAADXI/IcZYnmTIZag/s1600/nutter2.jpg" height="227" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Ribbons of coral, cherry, pink<br />
Trail extravagantly around the yard.<br />
Pink and purple cascades flow<br />
From tall white planters.<br />
Occasional bold yellow blossoms are<br />
As brilliant as the sun.<br />
The plants are more vigorous<br />
Than in any previous summer,<br />
And the flowers are larger.<br />
A movement brings me back<br />
To the grey and brown<br />
Winter debris in front of me.<br />
My eyes meet the slow blink<br />
Of the Neighborhood Lion,<br />
Who assures me that,<br />
No matter what the flowers do,<br />
He will be there<br />
To brighten my garden.Karen Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07589381487144096056noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6227833763979895509.post-41127340879557236622014-04-06T14:56:00.001-04:002014-04-06T15:09:23.401-04:00Turn About Is Fair Play, Right?And now, what you've been waiting for all week. It's probably been obvious that I don't know all that much about poetry, so I'm not sure what to call this. A sonnet maybe? Or Dr. Seuss? Anyway, here's Jensen"s contribution.<br />

Ahem. OK. Well, I thought I would stick with the limerick form for today. It's kind of fun. Hope you like it. Jensen doesn't. Hee-hee!.<br />
<br />
<br />
Mom says Jensen is like a cat.<br />
She says my love is full of sass.<br />
But what I like best,<br />
More than all the rest,<br />
Is Jensen's great big *ss!<br />
