Mom's Mid-Life Crisis Car

Mom says the new car is her "mid-life crisis car". Dad says that if that's the case, then he got off easy. Once again, I have no idea what they are talking about. Bunny friends, you may have noticed that Beans are a little crazy. This is just another example.

Anyway, I decided to try the new one out, to see if it was any easier to drive. After all, Mom did say that it was Automatic. Should be easy, right?

NOT! This sure isn't what I call automatic. Way too many buttons, and the steering wheel and pedals are still too far apart.

My Sister wasn't much help with this one, either. I thought she was supposed to be smart, what with that Master's degree she just got. She said driving is not my occupation, so her OT degree couldn't help me.

I think I'm done with cars. I have no idea why Beans spend so much time in them. I'm going to stick to closet navigation. Or even old-fashioned litterbox driving. At least the box has hay, right?

Karen's Note: It's only a Ford Focus, and the basic model at that. But it's the first new car that I've had since 1987. And even though it's not the important part of the car, I feel very lucky that I was able to get such a pretty one. The color is called Candy Apple Blue. The only thing better would be a blue and green paisley with black accents, and a honeydew  houndstooth interior. Or black and fuschia zebra stripes, with a black-and-white polka dot interior. Until they start painting cars with patterns, this will do. And, Weasley still has to ride in his carrier when he's going to the vet. He's a terrible driver.

Mom's A Slacker

She says that she's been very busy, and that's why I'm doing most of the blogging lately. And why she hasn't touched the sewing machine in a couple of weeks (sorry Bop, your Father's Day gift is going to be even later than Mom told you.). All she does is drive. Drive one sister here, one sister there, pick up one, then the other, and start over. And when she's not driving them, she's out driving strange cars at places she calls "Dealers", and cursing a lot when she comes home. She wants to know why, in 2012, salesmen insist on repeatedly bringing her attention to the mirrors on the visors, instead of answering her questions about mechanical things. I have no idea what that means.

Anyway, since Mom is so busy driving, I thought maybe I could help her out.

I remembered to put on my seat belt. That's important.

There seemed to be some logistical problems, so my sister came to help me out. The Pittsburgher, not the Curly One.

It still didn't seem to be working out. Maybe because my sister only sees a bit farther than I do.

Guess it's time for us to get going before Mom finds out what we were trying to do. We need a better plan. And maybe one of those new cars that drives itself. Know where we can get one?

Too Darn Hot In The Garden

Took a quick walk around the garden to see what was blooming, before heading back inside to hide from the heat. The petunias that the Curly One gave me are looking good.

In the front tangle garden, the rugosa roses are on their way out, but they still smell wonderful. The orange butterfly weed is starting to bloom.

The lavender in the rock garden is very happy.

The lilies are starting up.

There is a ton of rose campion that self-seeded.

Why am I hiding inside?  The bottom number is the temperature on my deck. The kitchen is a cool 91 degrees.

See that little guy next to the 91? That's how I feel. I'm definitely a cool weather person.

And don't worry about the Weasle King. Even though His Highness likes it warm, and even though he had his haircut, I still moved him down to the basement. He's the most comfortable one in the family right now, as he should be. I hope you are comfortable where you are. Have a great weekend, everybun. I'm off to climb into the refrigerator....

Don't Hate Me Because I'm Beautiful

It's just my natural state.

See what I mean? Mom says this is my good side. I'm not sure what she means by that.

So anyway, like the old commercial said, "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful". Hate Mom instead, for doing this to me.

She told me that I'll be happy about it tomorrow, when the day gets really, really hot. But, I'm more of a live in the moment kind of guy, and I'm not very happy right now.  I wonder why my Sister didn't have to get her haircut?

Friday In The Garden

When I went out to get some greens for Weasley today, I got waylaid by The Neighborhood Lion. He was actually pretty laid back today, for him. I think he must have been hitting the Catmint pretty hard.

Have a great weekend, Everybun!

Late Again

Not Mom's fault this time. We were having computer issues. Mom wants to have more, 'cause she says the Verizon guy was kinda hot. I'm not sure how, since it's not real warm here today, and he wasn't even wearing a fur coat.

Mom took this video of me, because she thought I was being strange. She only thinks that because she never cleans her house.

What do you think, Bun Friends? Strange? Or not strange?

A Good Day To Dye

The Curly One and I had a lot of fun today, as you can see by the smiles on our faces.

We were playing with dyes in the backyard.

The Curly One wanted to dye some shirts that she wears to work on the farm. She's going to be the brightest one there.

I dyed  some fabrics, of course.

Things got a little wild near the end, when we got our Jackson Pollock on.

We tossed all the extra dye onto the drop cloth, which happens to be a sheet she will be taking to school next year.

The results are currently running through the wash. Can't wait to see how everything turned out. What about you? Have you got an interesting project in the works this week?

What Do You Mean It's Not Wednesday???

Can you believe that Mom's done it again? Gotten the days confused, I mean.  Or in her case, I guess that would be "gotten into a confused daze". Must be her head is still up in the trees.

Want to bet on whether she gets it right next week? I'd say the odds are 50-50.....

Hey, look! I'm part zebra!

Or maybe tiger. Which do you think would be better?

Fifty

Yesterday, I turned 50 years old. I decided to celebrate by doing something that I had never done before, but that I had been wanting to do for quite a while.

Yup, that's me!I went on a zip line canopy tour at Zoar, in Charlemont, Ma. I was pretty nervous, but I had an absolute blast! It was so much fun!

I was surprised when my husband, who is not fond of heights,  wanted to go, too.

The Curly One, who loves roller coasters, had to be talked into going along.  Bad Mom that I am, I volunteered her to go first. I knew that I wouldn't back down once she had done it. You can see that she had the biggest grin of all of us.

We had five other guests of all ages, and two guides along on the trip. The guides have the white helmets in the picture. They had us do a training zip at the lodge, where our feet were only a couple of feet off the ground. It was very reassuring to feel how secure the harnesses are. That actually got rid of a lot of the nervousness. After that, they gave us a jeep ride to the top of the mountain, and we began to work our way back down.

The course was 10 zip lines, 3 controlled lowerings (sort of like rappelling, with the guide in control), and 2 suspension bridges. Some of the lines were treetop to treetop, some went to the ground, and some started on the ground, ending in the trees. The scariest part for me turned out to be standing on the platform, heels over the edge, getting ready to start the controlled lowering! Maybe it was the fact that I was not the one in control....

The trip lasted several hours, and by the time we got down, all three of us had decided that we want to do this again. If you're thinking about trying it, I highly encourage you to go for it. It's am amazing experience. And definitely a great way to celebrate a fiftieth birthday. Now I'm just trying to figure out when I can do this again, and what other new adventures do I want to experience this year....Maybe whitewater rafting? What do you think?
