On The Road, Missing Bunnies

Been hanging out down here in NC, with the Oldest, and her cat. Mostly I've been playing. Got to experience a Southern snowstorm (no thanks, I'll stay up North where we have plows and shovels), shop, do art, experiment in my daughter's play kitchen (she hates it when I call it that), and torture  play with her cat, Socks. Socks is crazy. She loves water, loves to play fetch, and is very vocal. She might be a dog in a cat suit.

Here she is, sitting under a photo taken by my Daughter, and in front of a little bed that I made her from felted wool, and old sewing scraps. Recognize that pineapple? Look more closely....

Yup, it's a piece made by shell at Raspberry Rabbits. I believe the pattern is in her first book? Anyway, it's one of the Oldest's favorite things.

As you can imagine, I have been having a wonderful time, but I am starting to miss home. And the Bunnies. And the Curly One. And even my Husband! Tomorrow I get a bunny fix, then I'll head home, where there is still a lot of winter left! I hope everybun else has been having a fun time, too. Drive safely.

Party At Weasley's

Hi, everybun! I'm just hanging  out at home, with the Curly One, and her friends, while  Mom and Sarah are travelling again.

Last week, they went down to North Carolina,

which apparently is where the Eiffel Tower is located. I'm not sure what that is, but they thought it was funny.

They went to the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens, where Sarah tried on some new glasses.

They made a new friend. Where the heck are this thing's ears? And what's up with those feet? Takes all kinds, I guess.

They saw a lot of pretty ponds and water fountains, but they didn't go swimming, even though it was really hot.

They saw this giant plant. Guess what it is, bunny friends. It's a banana plant. Can you believe it???? And for some reason, they didn't dig it up and bring it home. What a waste....

After all that walking in the gardens, they took a rest in some chairs overlooking the river.

And then, they went to Bunnyville, but you already know about that. Sarah cheated on me with Hannah and Harrington.

They are off again, by boat this time. They are on the New London, about to cross Long Island Sound. The little ferry that they are looking down at was the setting for a really horrible storm-tossed crossing that they made way back 22 years ago or so. Mom says it was the worst trip ever. She likes the bigger boats better.

They will be back soon, but the Curly One and her friends are ready to party. She works on a farm, picking vegetables, Bun Friends. She's ready to supply us with whatever we want.  And she'll have to clean up after us too, or Mom will be mad at her when she gets home. Sweet deal, hmmm?

Wake me up when you get here, OK? See you soon, so to speak.

Happy Birthday To A Special Friend

Tomorrow is the birthday of a very special lady, Shell, from The Raspberry Rabbits. Not only is she a very talented and creative soul, but she has the biggest heart around. Weasley, Ginny and I would like to wish Shell a Very Happy Birthday, and say how glad we are that she has become our friend through this wonderful blogging world.

See how excited Weasley is about this?

He says he'll wake up if  Sugie and Harrington will send some carrot cake over.

Then again, knowing Weasley, maybe he won't.  Anyway, we hope you have a great birthday, Shell!

Crossing Bridges

Late Friday night I returned home to find a package waiting for me from The Raspberry Rabbits. I was too tired to open it then, but on Saturday morning, I discovered this inside.

And hiding underneath all this brightly colored fleece was the bunny and mug that I had won in her recent give-away. Thanks, Shell. I love it all, and it made me smile at a time when I'm feeling down.

We had just returned from Pittsburgh, where we left our First Daughter. She will be there for the next two years, for graduate school. I had forgotten how big and overwhelming, and confusing Pittsburgh is. This is quite a change for a kid who grew up in a small city, and has spent the last two years in a rural town. I might not have been able to leave her if it were not for her Aunt and Uncle who live about a 30 minute drive from her apartment.

In Pittsburgh, you are always crossing bridges. What more can you expect in a city based around the merging of three rivers?  This is from a bridge.

Upstream are more bridges, and downstream are even more.

Some of the bridges are very fancy. This has horses leaping in every direction, carrying what look like earths? Not sure, and the picture isn't great. I'm wondering if they do bridge tours, maybe from the water? I'll have to look into this.

And here is my girl, unpacking in her new apartment.

I guess she will be crossing lots of bridges, literally and figuratively in the next couple of years. I just wish I weren't a 12 hour car ride away! But I know she will be working hard, and achieving her goals. Good luck, Sweetheart. We are pulling for you!

A Little Bit Of Happiness

Well, the music festival is over (I was dishing up hotdogs and hamburgers in the Music Boosters booth for hours), and the Grandparents are safely on their way home from a visit, and we have a little bit of downtime to relax here.

That's Ginny, with the ears up. Weasley doesn't bother waking up, unless food is involved.

So, I got on the computer to check my mail, and found out that I won the give-away being held over at The Raspberry Rabbits!  Hop over, and take a look at the cute green bunny who will be coming my way, in company with a  pretty bunny mug. Green is my favorite color, and I do love a good cup of tea, so this is a nice treat.  Thanks, Shell! You made my weekend.

A New Block

Nope, not writer's block. There haven't been any posts for a while, but it wasn't writer's block. Just a lot of little things conspiring to keep me from sewing and/or from the computer.

To get back into the swing of things, I thought that I would show you my (almost) finished block from the embroidered quilt block of the month project from The Raspberry Rabbits.  It's almost done, because Shell's block shows lace at the top and bottom. I don't have a lace that I like for this, so I'm still looking.

I have also finished stitching the third block in the series, but it is not yet assembled and embellished. That will be done soon.

UPDATES:
  • Ginny is doing well, she seems fully recovered.
  • Second daughter is back from Disney. The jazz band performed in the pouring rain, and then packed their performing clothes in plastic. Three days later, when the trailer arrived with the luggage, you can imagine the smell. Oh, well. They played well, and had fun. That is what counts.
  • First daughter should have arrived home from Great Britain the same night as her sister, but they were stranded in Philedelphia overnight. Apparently when a large group misses a connection, it is very hard to reschedule them these days. They survived a night in a nasty hotel, courtesy of   airline vouchers, and arrived home the next day. Good thing college students are adaptable.
  • Weasley, he's asleep. Like usual.
Hope your day is a sunny one!

A Little Embroidery

Ginny is still under the weather, but slowly improving. Weasley isn't real happy. He doesn't like to be separated from her. He spent most of today here:

Picture this old guy, who sometimes has trouble jumping the 4 inches into his litter box, sproinging straight up, over the trombone, over the backpack, bouncing off the laptop, and landing on that deep cushion! He did that 4 times, and finally I just left him there.

What with the craziness this week, not much sewing has been done. But in the evenings, I calmed myself down with some embroidery. I haven't done much of this type of work at all.  In fact, in the last few years, any emboidery that I did was just some x's, or some running stitches as marks on mixed-media works.

Then, I started looking at all the beautiful work that Shell, of the Raspberry Rabbits   shows on her website and blog. I couldn't help myself. After I finished admiring her rabbits, Razzy and Sugie,  I had to try one of her free patterns. This is my version.

Of course, Shell's is mostly white, and her stitches are much neater, but I'm pretty pleased with this as a first try. The colors in the photo, especially of the lace, are paler than in real life. I used all materials that I had around the house. The lace is a hand-dyed piece that I made last summer. This is a monthly pattern offer, that is supposed to result in a quilt by the end of the year. It will be interesting to see the final result.

And finally,  Second Daughter passed her driving test. Now I really start worrying....
