Don't Tell Anyone, But...

So, The Man of the House requested carrot cake for his birthday. Normally, I'm a very good baker (that's why I use Ginny's picture in my profile), but I've never made carrot cake. After the required baking time, the toothpick came out clean. I let it rest, as the recipe said, and then turned it out onto the wire rack to continue cooling.  At which point, it began to OOZE through the rack.

And then, a large chunk SLITHERED off the counter onto the FLOOR!

What to do? What would you do? Normally the five second rule does not apply in this house, because of the buns, and because why do housework when you can create?

Don't tell anyone, but I scooped that lump of cake up of the floor with a spatula, and dumped it and the rest of the cake right back into the pan, and popped it back in the oven! They should be used to bunny hair around here, shouldn't they?

I've never done something like that before, and I'm feeling guilty. What if the oven doesn't kill all the germs?

Maybe I should go to the grocery for one of their carrot cakes? Of course, TMOTH doesn't read this blog.  Hmmmm.....

If you still feel guilty, but the cake seems fine with a little additional baking, just remove the part that fell on the floor (if you can tell which it is and call it a taste testing slice--if you can't tell, who's to know--eggs with salmonella are worse than a few rabbit hairs). I daresay a lot goes on in grocery store bakeries that we don't want to know about. At least your germs are familiar to your family.

Good luck and I hope the birthday celebration goes well.

Elizabeth has asked for a carrot cake for her birthday this weekend too! What the birthday boy doesn't know won't hurt him! And I sure won't tell!

I agree with Fab Furs....but don't forget to ice your yummy carrot cake with cream cheese icing! It's amazing how icing can "cover" mistakes!

Happy celebration, my youngest is 18 today too!

The second baking should take care any germs that happened to be on the floor, in theory that is....

Can't say it better than Fab Furs. Rabbits are pretty darn clean, and non-germy.
